Men fined for obstructing environmental officer

Two men who pleaded guilty to obstructing an environmental officer from Mayo County Council from carrying out an inspection in relation to illegal burning were convicted and fined at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Fine for German woman convicted of illegal dumping

A German woman who was living in Ballyhaunis was convicted of illegal dumping on a site at Clare, Claremorris, which had 70 tonnes of waste and cost Mayo County Council €10,650 to clean up. The woman was fined €1,000 plus €750 costs at Claremorris District Court this week.

County Council convicted for sewage leak into river

Mayo County Council were convicted and fined at Castlebar District Court this week after summonses were issued by another government body against them. Under the Fisheries Act, the North Western Regional Fisheries Board brought proceedings against the council after deleterious waste matter was permitted to fall into the Castlebar River in January of this year. Mayo County Council pleaded guilty to the summons for the offence on January 24 of this year.
